The 2016 Oscars has received several black lash from the Black community after the list of nominees for this year’s awards seemed to confirm a pattern of the Academy snubbing movies with African American origins.
The President of the Motion Picture Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who is African American herself earlier released a statement regarding the nomination procedures stating
“In 2016 the mandate is inclusion in all of its facets: gender, race, ethnicity and s*xual orientation.” She writes.
In the light of the controversies, American rapper 50 Cent has pleaded with Chris Rock, host of this year’s Oscars to boycott the event in protest of Black actors not being nominated.
He wrote: “Chris please do not do the Oscars awards. You mean a lot men, don’t do it. Please”
There has been several calls from the black community to boycott the Oscars ; Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith have already made their opinions publicly known.
