Ghanaian actor Ekow Blankson has suffered media backlash over his recent comment that movies from the current crop of Ghanaian actors are not impressive enough, unequivocally describing them as “jokers” — EonlineGhana.Com monitored!
He made the statement in an interview with SVTV Africa, stating that the new crop of actors can be likened to the concert party style of acting where their performances were unscripted.
“I think the Kumasi movie industry is a different form of film making, it’s actually concert party where you don’t prepare a script and follow. They are given pointers and they have to create out of it and that is the concert party style and they have enhanced it into film.” Ekow Blankson said
Even though, the actor has since apologized to stakeholders in the movie industry based in Kumasi on several occasions, movie producer Kofi Asamoah still thinks his comments were rather uncalled for.
Speaking on Zylofon FM’s showbiz Agenda with Sammy Flex on Wednesday morning, Kofi Asamoah without mincing words stated that it’s an insult to liken our Akan movies to concert party.
According to him, it’s more erroneous to say that what we call film is also theater since they’re two different things. He however mentioned that Akrobeto is a better actor than Ekow since the Kumasi-based actor is more passionate than him.
“Let me say here, there’s no way you can compare Ekow Blankson’s acting to Akorbeto’s — Never!
Yes, Ekow Blankson may have had the education but Akrobeto is a better actor, a more passionate actor
than Ekow Blankson. That I can say emphatically with no apologies or whatsoever” he said
