On the 1st of June 2019, Mexican/American, Andy Ruiz Jr. shocked the boxing world when he went on to defeat the then undefeated WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
Andy Ruiz won the contest by technical knockout in the 7th round and in effect, became the new unified heavyweight champion.
After a lot of back and forth concerning a rematch, it was announced on the 8th of August 2019 that the much awaited rematch will take place on the 7th of December 2019 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
Four months away from the bout, Andy Ruiz has stated that he will end Anthony Joshua’s career in Saudi Arabia.
Via a tweet, Ruiz relived his 1st June moment of victory and further had some strong words for Anthony Joshua. “I’m looking forward to ending his career in the desert”, Andy Ruiz Jr. tweeted.
