TV3 News anchor and laboratory scientist, Emmanuel Samani has confirmed on Twitter that the former President’s death was related to COVID-19. Rawlings was on admission at the Cardiothoracic Center where he met his untimely death.
He is said to have died Thursday morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra.
JJ Rawlings was 73 years old. He leaves behind a widow, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and five children.
He was a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979.
